HVAC thefts burn Tyrone

Tyrone Police are still trying to track down the suspects responsible for the night-time theft of 17 air conditioning units from businesses at a local office park.

Tyrone Police Public Information Officer Lt. Steve Lafferty said authorities hope to gather more leads on the July 13 incident that occurred at the North Village office park located at the corner of Swanson and Senoia roads.

Lafferty said findings from the investigation haven't revealed any suspicious patterns in the thefts so far.

"It looks like the suspects just cut whatever was connected to the unit, pick them up and take them," Lafferty explained.

It is believed the suspects will sell the metal units as a whole or they will "scrap them out" for recycling money, the lieutenant said.

Lafferty noted the issue of air conditioning thefts has been an ongoing problem in Georgia this time of year, but this is the first time Tyrone has experienced these thefts at such a high magnitude.

Anyone with information on the air conditioning thefts is asked to call the Tyrone Police Department at 770-487-4732.
